When it Rains it Pours

So far in 2018, I got so sick I ended up in the ER, and my dog was bit by a poisonous snake, costing me $2700. Then, my boyfriend and I broke up, and, now, I am currently on day 5 of being sick...AGAIN.

When it rains, it pours.

I'm not sending this email to get your sympathy. I'm fully aware of how crappy this year has been, and although "i'm sorry" and "let me know if I can do anything for you" is appreciated, it's not necessary. See, although this year has been full of crap thus far, it has also been full of wonderful things, like growth.

It has taken me a few years to get here; to a place where instead of being swallowed whole by the bad, I'm able to shed some light on the good. Which is why I wanted to send this email to you: in hopes that if you're going through the rough, I can remind you to find the light within the dark.

Now, old school Janelle (aka pre-yoga Janelle) would be completely losing her shit right now. Screaming, crying, angry that the world is obviously completely against her. Why me? Blah blah blahhhhh. I'm over it. I'm over hearing that come out of my mouth just as much as I'm over hearing it come out of yours. Where does that get us? It gets us depressed, frustrated, angry and alone. Not fun. So, how do we turn it around?

TRUST. TRUST. TRUST.

Trust the bad times. Trust that the universe is sending you exactly what you need. And even if it's covered in debt and heart break...trust it. Easier said than done? Hell yeah. But, its necessary. When we switch our frequency from fear to trust, the darkness gets lighter. Instead of putting attention on all the bad things, shed some light on the good things.

Dig deep during these times of discomfort. Lean into it. Ask why? Why is this happening? What brought me here? The answer might come immediately, or might take a few more moments of reflection and persistence, but it will come.

There's a quote from one of my favorite songs by Twiddle 'When It Rains It Pours:'
"When it rains it pours all day
until love can find its way
Now listen to the words I'm saying in this line
that your life will be just fine and
troubles do not stay they
get replaced with goods times,
now you've got a great life."

I love that reminder, and I hope you do too. Remember, life ebbs and flows. When you're in the ebb, its the universe prepping you for the beautiful and graceful flow you're about to enter. When things seem to be falling apart, try and use it as an opportunity to pick up the pieces and put them back together exactly as you want them. We are the creators of our life and we get to choose what it looks like. What are you choosing? Fear and being stuck, or trust and growth?

When you're in the thick of it, feel all the feels. Cry when you need to cry and scream when you need to scream, but please, I beg of you, don't get stuck there. Don't drown. Lift yourself back up and remember that you get to control how the pieces come back together. Life's trials are just the universe's way of reminding you just how strong you are. Best believe! Use it to your advantage my friends.

with love,

Janelle

PS: For all of you suffering from this nasty and annoying cold like me, try this tonic that I've been drinking all week from Minimalist Baker
1tbsp packed, fresh grated turmeric
1tbsp packed, fresh grated ginger
1 lemon juiced + left over rind
1-2 tsp maple syrup or honey
pinch cayenne pepper or cracked black pepper
3 cups filtered water
Add it all together in a small sauce pan, and bring to a simmer over med-med high heat.
Use a strainer over glasses for pouring.
You can drink this straight, but I diluted mine with a little more hot water, like 3/4 tonic, 1/4 hot water.
This will keep for 2-3 days, and its seriously AMAZING.

Enjoy!
