Random Goodness
Nut milk and essential oils: random goodness.
So, I have two things to share with you today. All amazing, yet very different from each other, hence the 'random' title. Let's get to it!
First, I want to talk about nut milk. I've never really liked dairy milk- Even before going plant based, I always thought it was pretty gross and never understood how people could just drink a full glass. So, once I learned more about dairy and the negative effects it has on our system, the switch to nut milk was really easy (cheese was a different story, but we'll save that for another day). I've been using nut milk for a few years now, but just recently discovered how easy it is to make your own. Like, seriously, it's so easy I'm almost mad at myself for buying it in the store for so long. But, we do until we know better, then we do better. So, I'm doing better now by making my own, saving money, AND reducing waste: win-win, my friend. Here's how:
-Soak one cup of raw almonds in water over night
-Put soaked almonds, plus 4-5 cups of water in a blender (less for thicker consistency, more for thiner)
-Add cinnamon and/or vanilla extract (or omit if you want plain) - I don't have exact measurements for you, as I just did my own thing. If that stresses you out, google for measurements. If you're a loose cannon in the kitchen like I am, then sprinkle that shit until you don't want to sprinkle anymore. If it turns out too sweet like mine did the first time, enjoy it, and just know for next time to chill on the sprinkling. Live and learn, people. :)
-Blend on high for 1-2 minutes
-Strain it with one of the following: nut milk bag, cheesecloth, or a thin dishtowel.
-Enjoy! I believe it will last in the fridge for a few days- mine doesn't last longer than 3 because I guzzle it down, so I cant comment on anything past that. Again, if my lack of clarity bothers you: google. You can also use this recipe from Minimalist Baker.
Next, let's talk essential oils! Last weekend, I basically cut my finger off in the kitchen (told you I'm a loose cannon in there). I decided to turn to essential oils instead of Neosporin (or something similar) like I usually do and it totally worked out in my favor. I have 'The Essential Life' book by DoTERRA, and used that as a reference. In it, it has a bunch of different oils that you can use to help clean and heal wounds; the two that I had at home were lavender and melaluca (tea tree). I've been using both and, I kid you not, I have never seen a wound heal this way before. It's healing so nicely that it made me want to share this with you! I'm all about holistic healing and avoiding chemical products at all costs, so this was a really exciting discovery. I started with lavender the first day, then went to melaluca the next and just kept alternating from there (using 1-2 drops each time) Not sure if that's the exact way to do it, but it's working for me. I'd show you a picture, but figured not everyone would want to see my cut, so, if you're interested in seeing how it has healed, just ask the next time you see me.
As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you have! It can be about this email, or something else. If you ever just need to feel heard and supported, I hope you know I'm here for you, always, all ways.
In love and gratitude,
Janelle
